General Summary of Responsibilities

The Counseling Center Assistant/Associate Director is responsible for maintaining both administrative and clinical responsibilities. Individuals functioning in the position of licensed psychologist, licensed professional counselor, Licensed social worker or marriage and family therapy are licensed to provide personal & psychotherapeutic services. The Associate Director is responsible for acting in place of the Director during his/her absence and performing duties and assuming responsibilities as assigned by the Director. Providing leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical protocols and operating guidelines, as assigned by the Director. Providing professional counseling services; individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation and referral, clinical collaboration with contracted Psychiatrist and counseling/medical resources on campus and in the community, and testing. Providing psycho-educational services: developing and presenting outreach programs and seminars, presenting in-service training and professional development programs, and serving as guest lecturer on campus and in the community. Coordinating the response of the Counseling Center to issues involving mental health crisis – both on campus and in the community. Supervision of professional staff members for the Counseling Center. Developing and coordinating Counseling Center assessment and evaluation processes, coordinate the lACS Accreditation process as well as annual compliance process, as assigned by the Director. Oversee collection and analysis of data related to clients and clinical services of the Counseling Center and research projects, as assigned by the Director. Oversee and maintain the Counseling Center’s Electronic Records System, PyraMed and train staff on appropriate technological use. Serving as an alternative member of the Crisis Response Committee, and consulting member of the Behavioral Intervention Team. Serving on other committees, task forces, and/or advisory boards as requested and desired on campus and in the community. Maintaining appropriate licensure. Other duties as assigned, such as teaching or administrative assignments consistent with the institution’s needs and the counselor’s experience, training, and professional purpose.

Required Qualifications

Completion of master’s degree, preference of doctoral degree

2-3 Years of supervisory experience.

Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Georgia as a Professional Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist, Social Worker, Psychologist, etc.

Maintain appropriate continuing education requirements

Pre-employment drug test

Preferred Qualifications

Possess or qualify for the Georgia Certified Professional Counselor Superior certification.

Expertise or specialized training in multiculturalism and diversity, transgender and LGBTQ. A thorough knowledge of principles and practices of clinical counseling psychology as applied to the developmental needs and issues of students in a University setting.

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.

Providing leadership for the daily clinical operations of the Counseling Center, including but not limited to; the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical protocols and operating guidelines; providing direction and consultations to Center counselors/staff regarding clinical cases; implementing best practices of clinical and crisis response and intervention. Developing/coordinating assessment and evaluation process: developing assessment and evaluation interventions; developing/maintaining data base; analyzing data and preparing reports; utilizing best practices and modalities for assessment and retention; heading up the lACS Accreditation process and annual compliance.
